Staff Aerodynamics and Stores Separation Engineer
Northrop Grumman's Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Staff Aerodynamics and Stores Separation Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in defining the future.
This position will be located in Melbourne, FL, and will be responsible for performing aerodynamic characterization efforts, planning and coordinating wind tunnel tests, and conducting aircraft separation analyses.
Responsibilities:


  • Perform aerodynamic characterization efforts utilizing analytical methods
  • Plan, coordinate, execute and oversee wind tunnel test including two body separation tests
  • Conduct aircraft separation analyses
  • Stand up, Develop and manage tools for conceptual design and aircraft grid creation and perform Captive Trajectory Support (CTS) analysis
  • Support conceptual and preliminary design efforts of aircraft and components
  • Produce analysis products that calculate aerodynamic loads on separating bodies
  • Progress infrastructure for databases, codes, and tools management
  • Drive and support wind tunnel, ground, and flight testing
  • Develop test methods for experimental aerodynamic and performance characterization
  • Execute uncertainty analyses
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional and program-based teams
  • Represent work products in customer meetings and design reviews
  • Collaborate with other disciplines including Configuration, Aerodynamics, S&RE, CFD, Mechanisms, etc.
  • Able to work self-directed and give poignant and clear recommendations to leadership

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor of Science (BS) in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 12 years of relevant experience; OR Master of Science (MS) in a STEM discipline and 10 years of relevant experience
    • Experience partnering with a multidisciplinary engineering team to develop aircraft and subsystems in support of aerodynamic stores integration
    • Previous experience with onsite support of wind tunnel testing and data acquisition systems
    • Solid understanding of aerodynamic fundamentals, CFD techniques, and wind tunnel testing, including two body separation tests
    • Experience with aerodynamics tools and techniques,
    • Familiarity with translating aerodynamics analyses into workable design solutions for flight vehicles
    • Experience generating aerodynamic databases for 6DOF store separation simulations including proximity effects
    • Run 6DOF trajectory analysis
    • Analyze acoustic data for open cavities from wind tunnel or CFD measurements
    • Analyze requirements and create run condition lists for stores integration testing and numerical analysis
    • Understanding of the challenges of flow fields in subsonic, transonic and super sonic
    • Familiarity with configuration aerodynamics tools

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • 15+ years professional experience related to requirements development, technical practices, and lead activities in store separation and stores/aircraft compatibility.
      • Experience with DOD safety board process for store separation

        The salary range for this position is $142,500 - $213,700. Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits, including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
